"Then I saw another angel flying in midair, and he had the eternal gospel to proclaim to those who live on the earth...to every nation, tribe, language and people." --Revelation 14:6
One day angels will uniquely share the Gospel to the entire world! This verse came to mind recently when I was given the privilege of speaking to a conference that was established to bring together the brightest minds and the best ideas possible. I was one of 50 presenters who was given 17 minutes to say whatever I chose to an audience of 600 men and women who had paid $4000 per person to listen. And I was the first evangelical Christian to be invited in the 11-year history of the gathering.
I very simply told my story that included the laying of my life's foundation of faith in Jesus Christ. I began with the fact that three years ago that very day, my Mother was buried. At that moment I had been so grateful I had laid a foundation in my life that was stable enough to see me through such a difficult, life-wrenching experience. I then reflected that several years ago I had to rebuild the foundation of our house when I remodeled because the contractor said it was too weak to support new construction. Then I related our house to life, and to the fact that we need to establish a strong foundation before we start building on top of it, or we won't be able to withstand the storms of death, disease, disappointment and other problems that invariably come. I clarified that the Foundation of my life is Jesus Christ, the living Word of God, and the Bible, the written Word of God.
Then I went into my story...my decision as a young girl to ask Jesus to forgive me of my sin. I explained what the Cross meant to me. I told them how I had been confronted as a teenager by the fact that when I stood before God I would not impress Him with who my parents were, but that I would give an account to Him for my own life. And so I had told Him I wanted my life to count. I wanted to live a life of significance from His perspective. Several years later, at the age of 26, I found myself so busy as a young mother that I had drifted from God, was homesick for Him, and began to pursue Him in the pages of my Bible.
I told them that I had begun reading in Genesis, and that’s when Abraham walked into my life. It was Abraham’s example that challenged me to embark on a journey to know God in a relationship that one day He would acknowledge as a friendship—a journey that would be daily, and that would last a lifetime. Knowing God became my magnificent obsession. Because:
I believe that there is one, true, living God.I believe that He is the Creator of the heavens and earth, including you and me.I believe that He is the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.I believe that Jesus Christ is His only Son...not God, Jr., but God in the flesh...fully Man and fully God.I believe that Jesus was born of a virgin...that God is His physical Father.I believe that Jesus died on the Cross as God's sacrifice to make atonement for my sin, and that if I claim His death on my behalf, I will be forgiven of all my sin and reconciled to God in a right relationship.I believe that Jesus was buried.I believe that Jesus rose from the dead on the third day.I believe that Jesus ascended into Heaven where He is even now praying for me, and preparing His home for me.I believe that He sits at His Father's right hand, and any day will return to this earth to rule.I believe, therefore, that in the end, love will win out over hate, and good will win out over evil, and right will win out over wrong.
I concluded by citing what is perhaps the most significant verse in the Bible, John 3:16. I described it as the North Star of the Bible, because if you align your life with it, you can find your way Home.
I remember some polite applause and a few gracious words spoken by the host as I walked off the stage. But what difference did it make? Like the angels who shared the Gospel in mid-air without knowing who on earth responded, this AnGeL is left to wonder the same. Yet Romans 10:14 reminds me, How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard?
So I praise God for the privilege of telling others about Jesus, and I pray that they will believe in the One of whom they have now heard.
