"The . . . angels in heaven always see the face of my father . . . "  --Matthew 18:10

How can we see the LORD?  How do you and I open our eyes to the Invisible? It’s not just hard, it’s impossible!  We can’t! Not on our own. God has to help us, but at the same time we have to be willing to allow Him to work in our lives.  And the eyes that need to be opened are not the eyes in our heads, but the eyes of our hearts.

I wonder if God has been wanting to reveal Himself to you, as He has to me this past year, but you haven’t been “looking”? Are you blinded to God’s glory because it has come in an unlikely package?

dubai camels (custom).jpg
Dubai is a country of sharp contrasts:  camels
and cars, dust and concrete, old world charm and
new world glitz.  But there is one constant - God
loves the people there . . . men, women, and
children.  What a privilege to share four messages conveying my magnificent obsession of knowing
God as Abraham did to 500 women who gathered
for an international convention.

One year for my birthday, my mother sent me a package wrapped in plain brown paper.  When I opened it, there was a gaudy, multicolored straw basket inside, stuffed with tissue paper.  I  actually thought my mother had totally lost her good senses!  The postage to mail the basket would have cost more than the basket!  I tossed out the tissue paper, wondered what in the world I was going to do with the basket, then called to thank her for her “gift.” Mother laughed when I thanked her for the basket, then asked what I thought about what was inside it. I told her nothing was inside except tissue paper, and I had thrown that out. She responded urgently, “Oh, no, Anne! Inside that tissue paper is your real birthday gift!”

I ran outside, opened up the trash can, and went through the garbage piece by piece until I came up with the wad of tissue paper. Inside was a small gold ring with a lapis lazuli stone that had been given to her from someone at the British Museum.  It had been taken from the flooring in the Palace of Shushan where Queen Esther was said to live with King Artaxerxes! I had thrown out a priceless treasure simply because of the way it was wrapped!

What priceless treasure are you in danger of throwing out, simply because of the way it is packaged?  Could it be the treasure of seeing Him?  Sometimes God wraps His glory in hard circumstances or ugly obstacles or painful difficulties and it just never occurs to us that within those unwanted, unwelcomed, unexpected, unplanned situations is a fresh revelation of Himself.

In the Old Testament, God wrapped Himself and His glory in an earthly tent that from the outside must have appeared, if not ugly, then certainly very ordinary.  The tent was called the tabernacle, and it was covered with layers of goat hair and ram skins and even sea-cow hides!  A casual observer would never have suspected that there would be any glory there!  Yet the Shekinah glory of God was revealed within this inauspicious and humble covering.

Is God trying to pry open the eyes of your heart so He can show you His glory?  Is He using a personal, emotional or financial life-shaking experience for that purpose? And have you misunderstood? Have you squeezed your eyes shut more tightly against Him and what He is trying to reveal to you as the

intensity of your situation has increased?  Are you so focused on the outer wrappings . . .
           the pressure and the problems,
                the stress and the struggles,
                      the attack and the affliction,
                              the suffering and the sorrow,

We were told that in a secular nation like
Norway we could never fill the Spektrum
Arena for Just Give Me Jesus - Oslo.  But
as women poured in from every province
in Norway, plus other Scandinavian
countries, the Spektrum was filled and we
had to add chairs on the floor.  The power
of God clothed the messages given through
the Norwegian interpreter, Pastor Jon Ultvedt.
Hundreds came forward to receive Christ
as Savior, and hundreds of follow-up Bible
studies were planted all over the country!

Unwrap the package! Let go, and look up! Let Him open the eyes of your heart.  OPEN YOUR EYES to the vision of His glory!  Prayerfully, expectantly, sincerely, open your eyes to Him!

The prophet Isaiah did. In the midst of his personal, emotional, financial, life-shaking experience, he  opened his eyes and exclaimed, “In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord.” (Isaiah 6:1)

Isaiah’s exclamation seems to reverberate through the ages, lifting his words right off the page as his spirit was launched to soar far out into the stratosphere of the eternal world, into the very throne room of heaven.  Praise God!  If Isaiah could have such a vision, why can’t I?
So . . . when the attack is furious, and the pressure is unrelenting, and the pain is unbearable, and my heart is broken, and the tears are flowing . . . my spirit is on tiptoe as my heart whispers, God, what are You going to reveal to me? What do You have for me inside this package? My eyes are wide open!  This AnGeL wants to see the LORD!

And I have! During the same three-day weekend a few months ago, my husband collapsed in church;  I found him in a diabetic coma on two other occasions that necessitated 911 calls; and my computer crashed, taking with it an entire chapter I had just written for my new book.  I knew the ugly brown package had arrived!  But I asked God to give me eyes to see His glory in the thick darkness.  And he did!  My husband’s collapse at church meant we were surrounded by dear friends who helped me get him home.  Both 911 calls were answered by the EMS within five minutes, and Danny was back on his feet within two hours of each.  (Praise God I was home and could place those calls! My daughter just “happened” to be home for the first one.)  And I believe the rewrite of the book chapter is better than the original.  When the brown package arrived, I looked up, and I’ve seen His faithfulness, His strength, His wisdom and His love.

The following testimonies have come from you . . .

I just returned from my I Saw The LORD small group...God is stretching us as we learn to study Scripture in a new way - not in search of an answer but in search of His voice....The spark of revival has been ignited and we have begun to see smoke!  --DT

Thank you! Who would have thought that at the age of 52, I would have such a personal revival that I have the courage now to say to Jesus, “Here I am, send me” and have no fear, only anticipation? After raising my family, teaching for years and wondering what was next, I’m looking up and waiting for Him to call.     --DL (email)

Four of our books are translated into
Finnish and were made available at
the book table during the annual
convention of the Evangelical Free
Church  held in Kuopio.  In all, our books
are now published in fourteen languages.

and preach the Good News . . . without
leaving home!

WOW! I am a leader in a women’s recovery ministry - what a blessing this material has  been to me personally.  I am on fire for recovery and hungry in my personal relationship with Jesus.    --KWS (email)

I worked my way through the four Gospels (then) delved into the Old Testament . . . I frequently found myself asking, “What are they talking about?” I grew discouraged . . . then I checked out “I Saw The LORD” from the library where I work.  Anne, once I started reading it, I just couldn’t stop!  . . . With Isaiah, I didn’t feel like I was reading about something that happened to some people I knew little about a long time ago.  I was reading about us!  I was reading about now!  It was so thrilling to read his words!  While in the past I sometimes had to force my way through a short passage or verse, Isaiah’s words were so alive to me that I think I could have read the entire book in one sitting! . . . Twice I heard God speaking to me personally just like you talk about in chapter six of your book!  What a thrilling experience!  On the first occasion, I even asked God a question about what He had said to me in my reading, and then the next Sunday, He spoke to me through my priest’s homily, giving me the answer to my question!

In addition to reviving my Bible reading your book has also helped me with my prayer life and allowed me to see sins in my life that I had previously ignored.  The first time I prayed along with your guided prayer in chapter eight, while confessing my sins, I realized what little trust I had in God’s plan and how I was entirely focused on my plan.  This was something that I had never even thought about until the words came out of my mouth while confessing! . . . as horrible as I feel, I have never felt so alive and so excited about my life as a Christian . . . While I still have a long way to go spiritually, your book certainly gave me the wake up call I needed and helped “jump-start” me along my way!

While in Dubai, I had the
privilege of speaking in the next
Emirate . . . Sharjah . . . to an
Anglican church packed to
overflowing with workers primarily
from the Philippines and India.
Although their labor has produced
one of the most phenomenal,
luxurious cities in the world, they
themselves have almost nothing.
So I told them about Heaven:
My Father’s House, and the home
being prepared for them.  Following
the message I stayed for an hour
and a half to pray with individuals and families who requested it.

I was becoming stale in my quiet time usually saying the same prayers each day. I’ve always had trouble with prayer and many a time didn’t know what to say.  But that’s all changed now . . . I studied and read the last chapter on prayer and my prayer life has been transformed, and also my Bible study.  As you probably know, studying theology in college and studying the Bible in my personal quiet time are totally different. Now I just speak to Jesus as though I am sitting on his lap.  Just talking to him.  And by doing prayer this way, I feel spiritually refreshed.     --BT

I wanted to thank you for your “I Saw the LORD” DVD.  I was able to play it for the ladies incarcerated at the . . . County Jail this past Wednesday evening.  There was not a dry eye in the house. I’ve had the privilege and pleasure to lead women’s Bible studies in the jail for the past seven years and I can’t remember a more Spirit-filled session.  Every woman there privately confessed their deeply buried sin and left with a fresh, precious relationship with the God of the universe!!      --R41 (email)

My friend Arthur had prayed for his brother (who would have nothing to do with the Lord) for many years.  On July 9, the brother came . . . because Arthur was in a light coma and was just about ready to go to Jesus.  The brother happened to see your book on a table and he started to read it.  Soon he told Arthur’s son that he wanted to give his life

to the Lord.  They hurried into Arthur’s bedroom and told him. . . A few hours afterward, Arthur went to Heaven . . .           --FB (email)

. . . I AM FROM SOUTH AFRICA. JUST TO LET YOU KNOW “I SAW THE LORD” IS ENLIGHTENING to my spirit.  SUCH A POWERFUL TEACHING that Jesus used to get me out of my comfort zone. In the Spirit I start to sense revival in our town and area as well.  People are hungry for the Truth.       --B (email)

I wanted to write to let you know that we used the DVD “I Saw The LORD” in our Women’s Bible Study Group tonight in Donaghadee, Northern Ireland.  The response from women was totally amazing.  People really opened up and shared.  God used your message tonight in the hearts of women in our little Bible Study Group.    --LL (email)

hughes auditorium (custom) (custom) (2).jpg
Hughes Auditorium on the campus of
Asbury College in Wilmore, KY has been the
site of historic revival.  On June 2nd, it was
filled to overflowing with 1200 women, some
of whom brought their entire families, and
who came from twenty-three states to
Pursue MORE of Jesus.  The fire of revival
was once again ignited and fanned into flame
as we worshipped, prayed and sat at His feet
to listen to His Word . . . together.

I just can’t keep it in any longer!!  I’ve been reading “
I Saw The LORD” and have had my heart radically changed . . . forever!  I will try to convey to you the best I can what has happened and my gratitude for this book.  I’ve always loved Anne Graham Lotz’s books with her creative and vivid style.  In the past her books have brought me passion and extreme excitement for the Lord but what this book has done I can’t even put into words.  My life from here on out will be the testimony.  When I started reading this book I would have told someone I had great passion for the Lord.  Four years ago he rescued me  from a
life of drugs, alcohol, sex,

depression, eating disorder and the list could go on and on.  Because of that I have a desperate need for Him and a deep desire to help others find hope in their struggles.  Today I am someone different than who I was just weeks ago.  The funny thing is last night I was telling my friends about this book and I said, “Anne must have put a lot of time into praying specifically for people to be changed and walked through what her words describe because no book has ever spoken so powerfully to me.” I picked up to read this morning where I left off and it said, “. . . prayed the prayers of Paul for you . . . ”.  Thank you Anne for praying for me who you don’t even know because I have been forever changed and touched!!!   --E (email)

I have just viewed and read the study “I Saw The LORD.” The format is simple, motivating and challenging.  I am truly inspired for a deeper personal love of Jesus and the desire to recommend and lead others in this awesome opportunity. You have created a compelling study . . . God knows whose personal revival from your study will spark a much needed national revival.     --a Virginia pastor

What is your testimony?

The sparks of revival fire have begun!  Praise God!  Then . . . fan the flame!
