For months, the nation’s eyes were riveted on the state of Iowa and its process of selecting a presidential candidate. While candidates crisscrossed the state seeking votes, those same months were spent by Iowa’s Christian women of every denomination sending e-mails, making phone calls, and driving to churches to deliver brochures. The women weren’t seeking support for someone who might rule as president for four or eight years. They weren’t seeking to promote political solutions that, at best, are temporary. These women were promoting God’s solution and God’s Son as they worked hard to organize Just Give Me Jesus Greater Des Moines.
The result of their effort was a glorious weekend, April 18-19 when God poured out His blessing in the same arena that earlier this year had been filled with thousands of people cheering a political candidate. But this time, the Wells Fargo Arena was filled with thousands of women who were seeking Jesus.
While the national news focused on the alleged abuse in the polygamist’s cult in Texas, on the escalating attacks between the political candidates, on the internet video footage of teenage girls beating up other teenage girls, it was such a privilege to present God’s solution …to “just give them Jesus.”
GOD’S SOLUTION OF A SAVIOUR
Stephanie Seefeldt opened the revival weekend in a hushed, darkened arena, by singing God Bless America as the prayer that it is. Before she got t o the second verse, the entire audience was on its feet, singing with her and acknowledging in song that only God can help America overcome her problems.
Anne’s Friday evening message focused on Jesus Christ as Saviour. She vividly recounted the old, old story of the Cross, revealing God’s love for each one present. At the end of her message, hundreds of people physically came to the Cross, signifying the personal decision they were making to claim Jesus as their own Saviour. From an elderly man who shuffled across the arena floor, to a woman on crutches who maneuvered the arena steps, to children holding the hands of their mothers, to teenage girls running forward, they came, applauded by those who remained in their seats and rejoiced with their decision.
GOD’S SOLUTION OF THE RISEN LORD
Saturday morning Anne began by pointing out that while Des Moines is known as the nation’s insurance capital with multiple major insurance carriers based there, there is only one Person who can insure life after death, and He is the Risen Lord Jesus Christ. Once again, she told the familiar story of the resurrection, but through the eyes of a sinful woman with a past, Mary Magdalene; and through the eyes of Peter, who had been so defeated by failure as a disciple, he had gone back to his old way of life. Her message climaxed in a strong challenge to stay focused on the Cross. In response, thousands raised their white flags, indicating their surrender of all to Jesus.
GOD’S SOLUTION OF PRAISE AND WORSHIP
As Fernando Ortega has done for every Just Give Me Jesus in the United States and most of the international revivals, once again he let his love for Jesus overflow into worship that drew others with him. As one attendee remarked, “I am familiar with Fernando’s music, but have never heard him live, let alone lead worship, but he is anointed. His understated style was consistent with everything else on the program – with the focus on the cross, and Christ.”
GOD’S SOLUTION OF PRAYER
Fresh from a multi-week trip to Malaysia and surrounding countries, Jill Briscoe stepped on the platform to warm applause from women eager to learn how to pray. Jill’s session was packed with powerful examples of how personal and intimate our relationship with Jesus can become if we are willing to talk to Him. She challenged those gathered to look above in worship, to look within in confession of their own sin, to look around at their friends and families, then to look abroad at the world that God so loves. Not leaving the audience to imagine what prayer looks like, she led in times of directed prayer that created a thrilling buzz of heavenly conversations throughout the vast arena. With Stephanie Seefeldt’s music woven in and out of the prayer, the entire session was truly one of corporate worship. And the rising and falling sound of weeping, as hearts were rent by their own sin and by their burdens for that of others, put a poignant exclamation point on the communication with our heavenly Father.
GOD’S SOLUTION OF BIBLE READING
Anne opened the afternoon with the Bible study workshop, emphasizing the need to not only spend time talking to God in prayer, but listening to Him talk to us as we read our Bibles. She demonstrated how simple meaningful Bible reading can be. The response of countless women in the audience was summed up best by one woman’s emphatic exclamation: “Where has this been all my life?!?” The buzz in the arena during this session was thrilling as thousands of women were discussing the Scripture and discovering that God speaks personally through His Word. Their enthusiasm was evident as thousands signed cards to join one of the 100 follow-up Bible studies soon to begin across the state of Iowa.
GOD’S SOLUTION OF THE REIGNING KING OF KINGS
By day’s end, the audience was as strongly engaged as it had been at the beginning. Anne directed them to the first chapter of the last book in the Bible, focusing them on God’s Hope for the future. She warned them that the world may look as though it’s falling apart, but that the Bible clearly tells us it is just falling into place…right at the feet of the One Who is King of Kings, even Jesus! When she challenged the audience to make their lives available to serve Him in the time we have left, thousands stood. God raised up an army of women ready to go into all the world between their own two feet, and “just give them Jesus.”
Thank you for your continued prayer that God will work out His complete plan of revival in the state of Iowa through the follow-up Bible studies and through the overflow of service to Him from the lives of those who received a fresh touch from Heaven at the Wells Fargo Arena.
This is what the Lord says—
“For I will pour water on the thirsty land,
and streams on the dry ground;
I will pour out my Spirit…”
